KBP and MTRCB Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Advertisements

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) signed a memorandum of understanding last June 26 for the protection and development of Filipino children with regard to the showing of television advertisements. The signing took place at the MTRCB on Timog Avenue, Quezon City.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by KBP president Ruperto S. Nicdao, Jr. and Board chairman Herman Z. Basbaño and by MTRCB chairman Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares and Board member Atty. Jose Antonio K. Veloso.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the MTRCB and KBP agreed to align the system of self-regulation practiced by the KBP under its Broadcast Code with the regulation practiced by the MTRCB under Presidential Decree 1986.by adopting the State policy of promoting and protecting the physical, moral, spiritual, and social well-being of the youth and encouraging their involvement in public and civic affairs.

The KBP and MTRCB agreed to help each other to prevent the airing of objectionable advertising, promotional, and publicity materials. They also agreed that if a complaint is filed with the MTRCB against the airing of such material, the KBP will suspend its own proceedings on the same complaint until this is resolved by the MTRCB.
