KBP Supports Campaign Against Trafficking of Persons

News & Issues

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) has joined hands with The Asia Foundation to undertake a radio campaign against the trafficking of persons in the Philippines. The campaign involves the airing of public service announcements (PSA’s) in 34 KBP-member radio stations in the following areas: Metro Manila and the provinces of Cebu, Samar, Eastern and Northern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte. However, the PSA’s will also be heard nationwide since some of the participating stations in Metro Manila are being broadcasts on their national network.

The USAID-funded radio campaign aims to inform the public about the trafficking of persons, provide assistance to victims and potential victims of traffickers, and promote the implementation of the anti-trafficking law.

The radio campaign was launched last April 10, 2008 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila with the presentation of the three versions of the PSA’s: “Junjun,” “Barkada,” and “Batas.” The PSA’s provide telephone numbers for persons seeking information or assistance on trafficking particularly for victims or potential victims. In a statement read during the launching of the project, KBP president Maloli K. Espinosa called on KBP member stations to support the anti-trafficking campaign not just by airing the PSA’s but to discuss the problem in their programs.
